History
Lars Erik Nielsen - the founder and chairman of the Board - had a vision. If anywhere in the world, the Maldives would simply be the best place to fly a seaplane. Every destination is surrounded by water – the perfect setting to travel on a seaplane. All destinations are small, tiny islands. With a landing strip as big as the ocean a seaplane would be the ultimate way of transport.
4th November 1993, the first Maldivian Air Taxi seaplane took off from the waters of Hulhule’ (airport island) through the sky to Rasdhoo in North Alif Atoll. Maldivian Air Taxi was born with the humble beginning with 2 twin otters, which has evolved to a fleet of more than 24 aircraft carrying over 400, 000 passengers per year. The 25 employees have grown to over 350 dedicated employees.
What started as a vision is now the largest seaplane operator in the world. Maldivian Air Taxi is established, it is dynamic and constantly on the move. Ready to transfer you safely anywhere, anytime during the day. Our history, our country, our employees and our customers all contribute to our success and our future.
